Definitions of Health - Implications for Care

This course includes 2 campus meetings and assignments before going to Austria and Hungary for 14 days and is followed by 1 campus meeting as well as two conference paper presentations. When in Europe we will every day visit at least one health- or health-care related site and interact with one or more individuals there. The goal of this course is to explore different understandings of health and how these influence perceptions of care and policies pertaining to public health and health care. Students will compare and contrast their understandings, perceptions, and knowledge with health care professionals, health administrators, alternative treatment professionals, spiritual healers and others they meet in Austria and Hungary, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore innovative thoughts and approaches for public health and health care.
